Google is finally telling you when an ad was cooked up by AI.
A new label in “My Ad Center” reads “created or edited with AI.” You’ll see it on ads across Google Search, Google Discover, and YouTube. Tap the three dots or info button on any ad — same panel where you block or report ads — and there it is.
Google says it’ll auto-apply the label to ads made with its own generative AI tools. For ads created elsewhere with AI, advertisers have to add the label themselves. In some regions, the label might also show directly on the ad.
Meta has a similar “AI info” tag on its platforms. Google also added AI disclosures for political ads back in 2024 and expanded access to SynthID and C2PA content credentials earlier this year.
Transparency is nice. Whether advertisers actually self-report honestly? That’s another question.
