DJI just shared more details about its upcoming pro gimbal camera, the Osmo Pocket 4P, at an event in Malta. The big number: 17 stops of dynamic range. If that holds up in testing, it would beat every other consumer-level camera and put DJI in the same territory as Arri’s cinema cameras that cost tens of thousands.
The Pocket 4P adds a second camera to the mix. You get a regular wide lens like the standard Pocket 4, plus a 3x zoom lens for portraits and product shots. DJI says the zoom lens has a 60mm full-frame equivalent focal length with a large aperture they haven’t specified yet. That puts the main camera at about 20mm, giving you both ultra-wide and portrait options in one device.
There’s also a new D-Log2 format designed to take full advantage of that extra dynamic range. And for the first time, the Pocket line will come in white as well as black — matching its main rival, the Insta360 Luna Ultra.
DJI is keeping other specs under wraps for now: price, resolution, frame rates. But the camera is already on sale in China, so those details aren’t exactly secret. There’s no release date for Europe or North America yet, but expect it early next quarter.
