Citadel Securities Invests $400 Million in Crypto.com at $20 Billion Valuation

Market maker Citadel Securities has invested $400 million in Crypto.com, marking the crypto exchanges first institutional funding round and valuing the company at $20 billion. The investment represents one of the deepest incursions yet by a traditional Wall Street firm into the digital asset space.

Crypto.com plans to use the proceeds to expand its tokenization and derivatives operations, according to a statement from the exchange. The funding round signals growing convergence between traditional finance and cryptocurrency markets, as exchanges increasingly position themselves as bridges between the two worlds.

The investment comes amid a flurry of institutional activity in crypto. Morgan Stanley recently launched spot Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana trading on E*Trade through Zero Hash. Bank of America appointed new heads for its digital assets platform. And T. Rowe Price debuted a new ETF with Bitcoin and crypto exposure.

For Crypto.com, the Citadel Securities deal provides both capital and credibility as it competes with larger rivals like Coinbase and Binance for institutional market share. The exchange has been expanding its regulatory footprint globally, securing licenses in multiple jurisdictions. As reported by multiple outlets including Decrypt and The Block, the funding will accelerate Crypto.com’s push into tokenized securities and derivatives markets where Wall Street expertise is particularly valuable.
