The FTX Recovery Trust has announced a fifth wave of creditor distributions totaling approximately $900 million, scheduled to begin July 31, 2026. This latest payout brings the total distributed by the bankrupt exchanges estate to nearly $10 billion since repayments began in early 2025.
The distribution covers several creditor classes, with some now receiving more than 100% of their claim value. FTX collapsed in November 2022 following a dramatic liquidity crisis that revealed a multi-billion-dollar shortfall in customer funds. Founder Sam Bankman-Fried was later convicted on fraud charges and sentenced to 25 years in prison.
The estate, led by restructuring expert John Ray III, has been methodically liquidating assets including cryptocurrencies, venture investments, and other holdings to repay customers. The process has been complicated by market volatility, legal disputes over asset valuations, and coordination with regulators across multiple jurisdictions.
The announcement comes as the US Senate unanimously passed a nonbinding resolution opposing any presidential pardon or commutation for Bankman-Fried, signaling bipartisan resolve that the disgraced founder should serve his full sentence. As reported by Cointelegraph and The Block, the estate continues to process claims through its online portal, with additional distribution rounds expected as remaining assets are monetized.
For creditors who have been waiting nearly four years since the exchange froze withdrawals, the steady pace of distributions has been a positive development, though many have expressed frustration with the complexity of the claims process and the significant haircuts applied to crypto-denominated claims based on petition-date prices rather than current market values.
