Russia’s largest bank Sber plans crypto wallet launch by December

Sberbank, Russia’s biggest bank, is aiming to launch a crypto wallet and digital depository in its mobile apps by early December. The move depends on Russia’s new digital asset law passing first.

The wallet would let users hold and transact in crypto directly through Sber’s existing app ecosystem. A digital depository would handle custody. This isn’t just Sber dipping a toe in — they’re building real infrastructure for digital assets.

Russia has been moving toward clearer crypto regulation over the past year. The new digital asset law is supposed to provide the legal framework for banks and financial institutions to offer these services legitimately. If it goes through, Sber is ready to move fast.

December feels aggressive for something that depends on legislation, but Sber has been signaling this for a while. They’ve already been experimenting with blockchain tech and digital financial assets. A full crypto wallet is the logical next step.

If it happens, this would be one of the biggest traditional banks in the world putting crypto services directly in users’ pockets. Worth watching.
