According to The Block, prominent Ethereum engineering firm Nethermind has announced a significant transition in its participation within the decentralized infrastructure sector. Previously serving as a verifier node for the LayerZero protocol, the company is now aligning exclusively with Chainlink.
In this new capacity, Nethermind will operate nodes specifically designed to secure the Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) and Data Feeds provided by Chainlink. This strategic realignment marks a departure from its earlier role where it supported verification functions for LayerZero alongside other network participants like CCN.
The decision reflects Nethermind’s broader commitment to contributing technical expertise across the Ethereum ecosystem while focusing on specific high-security protocols offered by Chainlink. By joining as a node operator, the firm aims to bolster the reliability of critical data transmission mechanisms that underpin cross-chain applications and financial infrastructure.
This move also signifies an evolution in how engineering firms navigate multiple protocol networks within LayerZero’s decentralized verifier framework. Previously part of a consortium supporting verification for various chains including Ethereum BSC, Polygon, Arbitrum, Optimism, Avalanche Fantom, Cronos, Base, Linea, and zkSync Era via CCN, Nethermind is now concentrating its efforts on Chainlink’s infrastructure.
The transition underscores the competitive landscape among node operators seeking optimal positions within interoperable protocols. As LayerZero continues to expand verification capabilities for diverse blockchains through CCN, other firms have adjusted their staking strategies accordingly.
