According to Decrypt, a new experiment in the cryptocurrency ecosystem has quickly run out of steam. The so-called “anti-spam” Bitcoin fork was designed with high ambitions but failed to generate enough support from miners on its own network shortly after launch.

The breakaway chain struggled significantly compared to the main Bitcoin blockchain. It attracted only 2.53% of total mining power, a fraction that made it nearly impossible to function normally within standard parameters for proof-of-work blockchains. Because this low percentage was insufficient for immediate difficulty adjustments on its own network, the resulting blocks were left roughly 350 days apart.

This extended gap meant there would be no opportunity for mining difficulty recalibration on that specific chain until it could accumulate enough processing power to trigger a change naturally. Meanwhile, miners largely ignored this new fork and continued directing their resources toward the primary Bitcoin network where transactions were processed without issue. The main network powered ahead as usual while the experimental split remained dormant.

The failure highlights how difficult it is for any new blockchain to gain traction against established networks with massive mining support. Without broad adoption from miners, these forks often struggle to produce blocks in a timely manner or reach critical thresholds for operational adjustments. The experiment sputtered after just two successful blocks before effectively halting its independent progress.

This outcome underscores the reality that blockchain experiments require significant community backing and technical consensus to succeed. Without them, even well-intentioned innovations may struggle to move forward in a competitive environment dominated by larger networks like Bitcoin.
