Cardano Van Rossem Hard Fork Goes Live as ADA Whales Accumulate

Cardano’s much-anticipated Van Rossem hard fork activated on July 18, bringing protocol upgrades focused on further decentralizing development on the network. The upgrade, named after Guido van Rossem, hands core infrastructure management to outside teams, reducing Input Output’s central role in network governance.

Ahead of the upgrade, Cardano whales have been aggressively accumulating ADA tokens. Data from IntoTheBlock shows that wallets holding 100,000 to 100 million ADA have reached their highest levels since February 2023, while smaller retail investors reduced exposure. Cardano’s open interest rose 4% to $421 million with a 0.58 long-to-short ratio, signaling potential short-squeeze risk.

The Van Rossem hard fork is an intra-era upgrade that does not introduce new on-chain features but improves governance processes and network efficiency. It represents a step toward the Voltaire era’s vision of a fully community-governed blockchain.

ADA traders have been watching the $0.16 level closely, with the fork acting as a potential catalyst. While Cardano has faced criticism for slow development pace compared to competitors like Solana, the upgrade demonstrates continued progress on its roadmap. As reported by U.Today and CryptoNews, whale accumulation ahead of major upgrades has historically preceded price appreciation for ADA.
