Morgan Stanley Launches Spot Bitcoin, Ethereum and Solana Trading on E*TRADE Platform

Morgan Stanley has begun offering spot cryptocurrency trading for Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana through its E*TRADE platform, marking another milestone in the integration of digital assets into traditional financial services. Eligible customers can now buy, sell, and hold the three cryptocurrencies directly through their E*TRADE accounts.

The rollout represents a significant expansion of crypto access for retail investors through a major wirehouse and brokerage platform. Morgan Stanley, one of the largest wealth management firms globally, is leveraging Zero Hash, a crypto infrastructure provider, to facilitate the trading and custody of digital assets on its platform.

The move comes amid a broader trend of traditional financial institutions offering cryptocurrency exposure to their clients. While several banks and brokerages have provided access to crypto through investment products like exchange-traded funds or futures contracts, direct spot trading availability through major platforms remains relatively limited.

Morgan Stanley decision to offer spot crypto trading through E*TRADE signals growing institutional confidence in the digital asset class despite the ongoing market downturn. It also positions the firm to compete with other retail-focused platforms like Robinhood and Coinbase that have long offered direct cryptocurrency trading.

The selection of Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana reflects current market demand among retail investors. Bitcoin and Ethereum remain the two largest cryptocurrencies by market capitalization, while Solana has gained significant traction as a smart contract platform with a growing ecosystem of decentralized applications.

The integration with Zero Hash means that E*TRADE customers crypto holdings will be managed through a regulated infrastructure provider, addressing some of the custody and security concerns that have traditionally deterred traditional financial institutions from offering direct crypto exposure.
