Google has rebranded its AI-powered note-taking application NotebookLM to Gemini Notebook, integrating it more deeply into the companys Gemini ecosystem. The rename comes alongside new features designed to make the tool more useful for research and content creation.
Originally launched in 2023 as Project Tailwind before being widely released as NotebookLM, the app uses artificial intelligence to help users organize, summarize, and interact with their notes and source materials. It gained significant attention for its ability to generate AI-powered podcasts, narrated slideshows, and video summaries from uploaded documents.
The rebranding to Gemini Notebook reflects Googles strategy of consolidating its AI products under the Gemini brand umbrella. Users can soon access their notebooks through AI Mode in Google Search, making the tool more accessible from within the search experience. The app remains a standalone product even as interoperability with other Google services increases.
New features coming to Gemini Notebook include support for Googles latest AI models, including Gemini 3.5 and Antigravity, which provide enhanced reasoning and content generation capabilities. Google AI Pro subscribers will gain access to these advanced models, along with expanded context windows for processing larger document sets.
The rebranding also signals Googles intention to position Gemini Notebook as a productivity tool that competes with other AI-assisted research and writing applications. The app ability to transform uploaded documents into various content formats, from study guides to podcast scripts, has made it popular among students, researchers, and content creators.
NotebookLM had already been technically integrated into Gemini before this latest change, and the rename formalizes the transition. The app continues to be available as a free service with optional premium tiers.
