Cryptocurrency exchange Bybit has officially launched its services in Indonesia after completing the acquisition of local crypto exchange NOBI. The move gives Bybit a regulated foothold in one of Asia’s largest and fastest-growing digital asset markets.
Indonesia is home to more than 21 million registered cryptocurrency exchange users, making it a strategically important market for global exchanges seeking to expand their presence in Southeast Asia. Bybit’s entry comes through a locally operated platform that complies with Indonesian regulations, including registration with the Commodity Futures Trading Regulatory Agency (Bappebti).
The acquisition of NOBI, a Jakarta-based crypto exchange, provides Bybit with an established operational framework and a local license. Bybit stated that the launch represents a significant step in its global expansion strategy and its commitment to complying with local regulatory requirements in each market it enters.
“Indonesia represents a key market in our expansion across Asia, and we are committed to providing Indonesian users with a secure and compliant trading environment,” a Bybit representative said. The platform plans to offer spot trading, derivatives, and other crypto services to Indonesian users.
The expansion comes at a time when regulatory frameworks across Southeast Asia are maturing. Indonesia has taken steps to clarify its stance on digital assets, classifying cryptocurrencies as commodities and requiring exchanges to register with Bappebti. Several major international exchanges have either entered or explored entry into the Indonesian market in recent years.
Bybit, founded in 2018, has grown to become one of the world’s largest crypto derivatives exchanges by trading volume. The company has been actively pursuing regulatory compliance and geographic expansion, having secured licenses and registrations in multiple jurisdictions including Cyprus, Kazakhstan, and now Indonesia.
The NOBI acquisition follows a trend of larger exchanges acquiring local platforms to gain faster market access rather than building operations from scratch. This approach allows exchanges to navigate complex local regulations more efficiently and leverage existing user bases.
