Sony’s “high demand” purchase limit on the PS5 disc drive isn’t new. It’s been on the store page since at least March 2025 — way before Sony announced it was stopping disc-based production.
The cap limits how many drives customers can order. Sony framed it as a response to demand spikes, but the timing suggests this was planned well in advance of the disc cutoff announcement.
For collectors or anyone who still buys physical games, that matters. Supply is already tight. If purchase limits were active for over a year before the announcement, it’s hard to argue this is a sudden reaction to demand. It looks more like a managed phase-out.
