Paradigm Bets $5.5M on M1X Global and Tokenized Sovereign Debt

Paradigm led a $5.5 million seed round in M1X Global, a company building a platform for tokenized sovereign debt. The round closed Monday.

M1X Global already has one major project under its belt. They worked with the Republic of the Marshall Islands on USDM1 — an onchain sovereign bond. That’s a real country issuing debt on a blockchain. Not a testnet, not a proof of concept.

The idea is pretty straightforward. Sovereign debt is a multi-trillion dollar market, but most of it moves through traditional finance rails that are slow, expensive, and opaque. Put it onchain and you get faster settlement, broader investor access, and programmatic compliance. At least in theory.

Whether this catches on depends on a lot of things. Regulatory alignment. Institutional appetite. The usual hurdles. But Paradigm putting money behind it suggests they see a real market forming here.

M1X Global plans to use the funding to expand their platform and bring more sovereign issuers onboard. If the Marshall Islands deal was a proof of concept, this is the scale-up phase.
