Almost a decade after launch, Nintendo’s original Switch is getting the axe in Europe. Sales stop in February 2027.
The company confirmed it in an updated FAQ about hardware revisions. All three models — the original Switch, Switch Lite, and OLED Model — will stop being sold to retailers across Europe starting mid-February 2027.
That’s nearly 10 years on the market. The Switch launched in March 2017 and became one of Nintendo’s best-selling consoles ever. But all good things end.
Nintendo’s focus is clearly on the Switch 2 now. The company is even making a version of the Switch 2 with a replaceable battery specifically for the European market. Meanwhile, the original line is being phased out.
This isn’t a surprise. Nintendo typically supports hardware for about a generation before moving on. But it’s still a notable moment — the end of an era for a console that defined portable gaming for millions.
