France is done waiting. Starting in 2027, the country’s cybersecurity agency ANSSI will only certify security products that use quantum-resistant encryption. That’s a big deal for any company selling into French government or critical infrastructure.
Samih Souissi, ANSSI’s chief of staff, dropped this at the France Quantum conference in Paris. He said businesses should be buying quantum-safe products by 2030. The certification process takes 12 to 18 months, so vendors who start now are already cutting it close.
Souissi put it bluntly: “It’s not only a technical issue. It’s a matter of governance, industrial planning, regulation, and sovereignty.”
The clock is ticking because of “harvest now, decrypt later.” Attackers can grab encrypted data today and crack it open once quantum computers are powerful enough. You can’t wait until that day comes to start securing things.
The US is running a parallel race. President Trump signed quantum executive orders in June. Federal agencies need to adopt post-quantum standards by the end of 2031. The NSA wants new national security systems to support quantum-resistant algorithms from January 2027.
Algorand’s timing looks good. The foundation published its post-quantum roadmap in June, targeting full quantum resilience across every network layer by the end of 2027. That covers wallets, developer tooling, and consensus.
Native post-quantum accounts land in Q3 2026, built on the Falcon signature scheme — something Algorand has used for State Proofs since 2022. Multi-sig support and treasury migration follow before year-end.
The market’s paying attention. ALGO trades near $0.089, up 1.2% in 24 hours, with a market cap around $796 million. Quantum-resistant tokens already beat Bitcoin by 59.3% during May’s selloff, according to Binance Research.
France and the US both nailed 2027 as the year quantum readiness becomes a pass-fail procurement test. The question now is whether other blockchains can match the timeline. Because institutions aren’t going to trust decades of data to chains that can’t prove they’re quantum-safe.
