Active Cooling Qi Chargers Actually Work — I Tested One

I was skeptical. Wireless Qi chargers with fans built in? Sounded like a gimmick. Too loud, too weak, too unnecessary. Turns out I was wrong.

Heat is the enemy of batteries. It accelerates chemical degradation in lithium-ion cells. Qi charging uses electromagnetic induction, which produces more heat than a cable. Enough heat that phones throttle wireless charging speeds to protect the battery.

Bottom line: active cooling makes Qi charging viable again. Anker, Aukey, and ESR are building similar stuff. If you’ve written off wireless charging because of heat, it’s time to take another look.
