Framework Laptop 13 Pro gets cheaper SSDs but CPU price hike looms

Framework delivered good news and bad news for anyone waiting on a Laptop 13 Pro preorder. The upside: cheaper SSDs. The company secured new PCIe Gen 5 drives from Adata at lower prices. If you ordered a 500GB config, you’ll now get 1TB for less money.

You can also now order configurations with 1TB or 2TB SSDs pre-installed, though they’re not yet showing up in the DIY configurator.

Now the bad news. Framework says it’s “gotten signals that CPU pricing will be increasing soon” and expects to raise overall system prices on the Laptop 13 Pro in the coming weeks for new orders.

It’s another sign that the component crisis isn’t letting up. Apple and Microsoft have already announced price increases, and Xbox consoles are going up in August. Memory prices are hitting everything from cars to data centers.

Framework first announced the Laptop 13 Pro in April, billing it as a “MacBook Pro for Linux users.” Initial shipments were planned for June but got delayed to July due to issues with the haptic touchpad and custom display.
