Sony Pictures has released the first trailer for Klara and the Sun, directed by Taika Waititi and based on Kazuo Ishiguro novel. The film stars Jenna Ortega as Klara, a solar-powered Artificial Friend who wants to find the perfect home.
When Klara meets Josie (Mia Tharia), the two quickly bond. Josie has a complicated relationship with her mother (Amy Adams), and the family has suffered a recent loss. Klara innocent wonder and steady loyalty begin to heal the family.
Waititi recently told Vanity Fair that he quickly realized he needed a new tonal approach for this material. He said it nice to not have to cater to expectations and make something different from his previous work.
The cast includes Natasha Lyonne as an AF store manager, Rachel House as the housekeeper, Aran Murphy as Josie best friend, and Sophia Bryant-Taukiri as Josie older sister. Steve Buscemi and Harry Greenwood also appear in undisclosed roles.
The film hits theaters on October 23, 2026.
