Meta’s Speech Rule Overhaul Tripled Abusive Threats Against US Lawmakers
A CCDH study of 8 million Facebook comments found that violent threats against US lawmakers quadrupled after Meta relaxed its content moderation rules in 2025. Hate speech and bullying saw similar spikes, while Meta cut its proactive enforcement by half.
