According to Decrypt, Bitmine Immersion Technologies has executed a significant purchase of Ethereum, acquiring approximately another $81 million worth of the asset. This latest transaction brings the mining firm closer to its strategic objective: holding five percent of the total circulating supply by late 2025.
The company currently stands roughly 187,000 Ether short of reaching that specific milestone. While Ethereum has recently outperformed Bitcoin in market value over a four-month period, Bitmine maintains its primary focus on accumulating ETH rather than diversifying into other cryptocurrencies or holding traditional paper assets like gold.
The firm believes this strategy will position it as the largest non-state-owned holder of Ether upon achieving its target. To facilitate these purchases and meet future regulatory requirements for US-based mining operations, Bitmine recently raised $40 million in a private equity round led by Silver Lake Partners and other investors earlier this year.
The company has also committed to paying an additional 2 percent fee on all Ether it generates through its own mines. This payment is designated specifically toward the purchase of ETH from external sources, reinforcing its aggressive accumulation plan.
In total, Bitmine aims to hold around 150 million Ether by December 31, which would represent nearly half a billion dollars in asset value at current prices. However, it acknowledges that reaching exactly five percent will depend on the future performance of Ethereum and whether other miners also adopt similar accumulation strategies.
The firm has stated its intention to continue purchasing ETH as long as market conditions allow, provided these acquisitions do not conflict with broader strategic goals for its mining infrastructure.
