Blockchain Association backs Custodia’s Supreme Court bid over Fed master account access

Custodia Supreme Court Bid Backed by Industry Group

According to The Block, the Blockchain Association has formally endorsed a legal petition filed by Custodia, urging the U.S. Supreme Court to review restrictions placed on federal master accounts for digital asset firms.

The industry collective stated that this specific case is fundamentally about ensuring lawful digital asset businesses can compete on equal footing within the national marketplace.

Custodia’s legal team argues that current limitations imposed by financial regulators effectively bar qualified entities from accessing critical banking infrastructure, creating an uneven playing field. The petition seeks to challenge these barriers at the highest judicial level before Congress has time to enact new legislation addressing digital asset oversight and consumer protections.

The dispute centers on whether federal laws allow master accounts for certain types of institutions, including those holding crypto assets. Regulators have previously denied such access based on interpretations that restrict banking services available to these firms.

Custodia maintains its operations are compliant with all applicable regulations while facing operational constraints due to the denial requests from financial authorities. The case now proceeds through standard appellate channels before potentially reaching the Supreme Court for final review by justices in 2026-27.
