Visa outlines stablecoin strategy during Q3 earnings call

During Visa Corporation’s third-quarter earnings call, the payment giant disclosed its evolving approach to the emerging digital currency revolution. Management highlighted substantial investment in the stablecoin infrastructure stack, signaling a strategic embrace of tokenized money as mainstream commerce adoption accelerates.

The financial services leader specifically called out investments across three key dimensions: OpenUSD participation, enterprise-level tokenized deposits, and artificial intelligence-enhanced payment flows that could fundamentally reshape transaction architecture. While concrete revenue figures from these initiatives were not yet broken out in the earnings report, Visa emphasized readiness for widespread deployment of stablecoin rails by late-2027.

OpenUSD, Microsoft’s open-source project aiming to create permissioned but publicly interoperable dollar-denominated tokens represented a significant focus area. Analysts interpret this as a competitive response to private consortium projects while maintaining regulatory compliance frameworks that Visa has built over recent years following the SEC’s expanded guidance on payment token classification.

Tokenized deposits, meanwhile, allow corporations and institutional investors to access yield-bearing traditional finance products without sacrificing liquidity or security. This model directly competes with DeFi staking mechanisms while preserving familiar banking relationships that many merchants prefer over pure blockchain integration.
