iOS 27 Gives Your iPhone a Mac-Like Recovery Mode

If you’ve ever had to restore a Mac using Recovery Mode, the idea of doing the same thing on your iPhone might feel long overdue. Well, with iOS 27, Apple finally brought that concept to iPhone and iPad.

The new recovery mode boots into a stripped-down interface that doesn’t load the full operating system. From there, you can restore your software, run diagnostics, wipe the device, or let Recovery Assistant try to fix things automatically. It’s basically Apple saying: “We know things go wrong, and here’s a better ladder out of the hole.”

This kind of thing sounds basic until you actually need it. Having a dedicated recovery environment — instead of relying on iTunes or Finder — could be a lifesaver for anyone who’s ever soft-bricked an update.
