Mozilla is making its free VPN a lot more generous, at least for the summer. Users of Firefox VPN will now get unlimited bandwidth through the season, a big jump from the previous 50 GB monthly limit. And it’s not just more data — Mozilla has expanded the server network to over 25 locations worldwide.
The move feels like a play to win back users who’ve been burned by sketchy free VPNs or priced out of premium services. Firefox’s VPN has flown under the radar for a while, mostly because the 50 GB cap made it feel more like a trial than a real offering. Lifting that restriction, even temporarily, could change the calculus for folks looking for something free and trustworthy.
Whether the unlimited deal sticks around past summer is anyone’s guess. But for now, it’s a solid option if you want basic VPN protection without handing over your credit card. Keep in mind it’s still a browser-based VPN and doesn’t cover your whole device the way a standalone app would.
