Charles Hoskinson Fires Back at Cardano Community After Solana SBI Japan Deal

Charles Hoskinson, the founder of Cardano, has responded sharply to community criticism following Solana’s high-profile partnership with Japanese financial giant SBI Holdings, declaring that the era of centralized network growth is over.

The deal between Solana and SBI Holdings, which also involves Japanese bank Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group (SMFG), focuses on bringing Japan’s real-world assets onto the Solana blockchain, alongside plans for a JPY-pegged stablecoin and AI-powered micropayment infrastructure. The announcement was celebrated as a major victory for the Solana ecosystem, positioning the network as a leading platform for institutional tokenization in Asia.

Some members of the Cardano community expressed frustration that their preferred network had not secured a similar partnership, with criticism directed at Hoskinson and the Cardano Foundation’s business development efforts. In response, Hoskinson posted a message telling critics to stop complaining and start building, arguing that relying on centralized partnerships is not the path to long-term success for a decentralized blockchain project.

Hoskinson framed the situation as a strategic choice, suggesting that Cardano’s focus on academic rigor, peer-reviewed research, and organic community growth would ultimately prove more sustainable than partnerships brokered by foundations or corporate entities. He emphasized that Cardano’s governance model, which gives decision-making power to ADA holders through CIP-1694, means the community itself is responsible for driving adoption rather than relying on a single figure or organization.

The exchange highlights the differing approaches between two of the largest proof-of-stake blockchain networks. Solana has pursued a strategy of high-profile corporate partnerships and venture capital backing, while Cardano has emphasized gradual development through formal methods and community governance. Both approaches have yielded results in different areas, and the debate over which model is superior continues to divide crypto enthusiasts.
