These tokens are typically fully backed by underlying securities held by the issuer and can be traded 24/7 on cryptocurrency exchanges.
The growth has been driven by a wave of new product launches from major crypto exchanges. OKX recently began offering tokenized US stocks for round-the-clock trading, while Robinhood Chain, the brokerage layer-2 network, has made tokenized equities a core part of its value proposition. The trend reflects growing demand from crypto-native traders who want exposure to traditional markets without leaving the digital asset ecosystem.
The record comes amid broader institutional interest in asset tokenization. The Depository Trust and Clearing Corporation, which settles most US securities trades, began live testing of tokenized securities with nearly 40 financial firms including BlackRock, Goldman Sachs, and JPMorgan. A full commercial launch is expected in October.
Proponents argue that tokenized stocks offer significant advantages over traditional equity trading, including faster settlement, lower costs, and the ability to trade outside of standard market hours.
