Image Line’s FL Studio 2026 is out, and its AI chatbot Gopher just got a serious upgrade. Last year, Gopher was basically a glorified instruction manual. Ask it how to do something, it’d show you the steps. Useful, but not exactly exciting.
Now it can actually do things for you.
The Verge’s Terrence O’Brien tested it. He asked Gopher to lay down a four-on-the-floor kick with snares on the backbeat, then add gated reverb on the snare for that ’80s sound. It executed everything flawlessly.
Gopher still has limits. It can’t draw automation, insert notes into melodic tracks, or select specific presets inside plugins. Ask it for a Rhodes electric piano sound, and it’ll load Flex with a generic patch — finding the actual Rhodes is still on you.
Image Line says they’re not training AI on user data. Your session stays private.
The other big feature in this release is the completely rebuilt Flex instrument. Think of it as Image Line’s answer to Native Instruments Kontakt — a do-it-all virtual instrument with dozens of sound packs covering vintage synths, realistic guitars, and glitchy weirdness. The new preset browser has improved filters and genre categories. The engine itself is less resource-intensive now.
FL Cloud subscribers get automatic cloud backups for projects. There’s also a new always-listening “audio logger” that captures the last 60 seconds of the master output. Forgot to hit record? No problem — it’s still there.
Best part: FL Studio 2026 is a free upgrade for existing users. Image Line has always done that, and they’re sticking with it.
