8Layers Raises $2.9 Million for Identity Security Platform

Spanish security startup 8Layers has closed a $1.1 million pre-seed extension, bringing its total early-stage funding to $2.9 million. The round included Criteria Venture Tech and Bankinter, joining existing backers JME Ventures, Lanai Ventures, Draper B1, and Secways.

The Madrid-based company offers a digital identity protection platform that combines Identity Security Posture Management (ISPM), Identity Threat Detection and Response (ITDR), and automated compliance with European frameworks.

It connects to identity providers like Okta, Microsoft Entra ID, Google Workspace, and AWS IAM via APIs. The platform inventories human, service account, API, and AI identities across cloud services and disconnected tools. It correlates behavior across sources, assigns a risk score to each identity, and surfaces threats in real time.

8Layers also detects identity kill chains by correlating signals over time. It maps identity controls to compliance frameworks and continuously validates them. Dormancy detection and containment actions are built in.

CEO Daniel Garcia Moran said the fresh capital will go toward go-to-market strategy and European expansion. “We have just launched the platform commercially, and we are very proud to welcome two strategic partners who know first-hand the problem we solve,” he said. “Their entry is not just an investment: it is confirmation, from within the financial sector itself, that digital identity security is now a top-level priority.”

8Layers doesn’t disclose pricing or customer numbers publicly, but the investor mix — traditional VCs plus a major Spanish bank — suggests the product has traction where it matters.
