EMURGO, the founding entity behind Cardano, is stepping down from its governance role on Pentad — a project built on the Cardano blockchain.
The move comes after a wallet exploit drained roughly 16 million ADA, worth about $2.4 million. The attack targeted a flaw in Pentad’s address generation system, allowing the attacker to siphon funds from the project’s wallets.
EMURGO said it’s stepping back from its governance position on Pentad’s committee, though it’s still committed to the broader Cardano ecosystem. The company hasn’t detailed whether the exploit directly triggered the decision, but the timing is hard to ignore.
The incident highlights ongoing risks in DeFi even on established chains like Cardano. Address generation bugs aren’t new, but they keep finding targets.
