Zcash is a step closer to something no other privacy coin has fully pulled off: a mathematical guarantee that nobody can secretly create fake coins.
The project’s price jumped 12% after Project Tachyon published new details on its verification work for the upcoming Ironwood shielded pool. Ironwood is Zcash’s next-generation privacy upgrade, and Tachyon is the team trying to formally verify the math behind it.
What does that mean in practice? Zcash’s shielded transactions have always relied on complex cryptography — specifically zero-knowledge proofs — to keep sender, receiver, and amount hidden. The catch is that bugs in that cryptography could let someone mint coins out of thin air. A formal mathematical proof would close that loophole for good.
Project Tachyon laid out its approach and progress. The work is ongoing, but the trajectory is clear: Zcash is aiming for provable security, not just the best-effort kind. That’s a different standard than most cryptocurrencies aim for.
The market liked what it heard. ZEC rose 12% on the news, trading well above where it sat before the announcement.
