You know those annoying system update notifications? The ones that always pop up when your battery’s at 12%? Yeah. If they stop showing up entirely, that’s actually worse.
When a phone stops getting updates, it stops getting security patches. Vulnerabilities get discovered — and criminals find them too. Your banking app, your health data, your messages — all sitting on a device that’s no longer getting fixed.
Here are the models hitting end of life soon:
Samsung
Galaxy S23 series — Android updates end February 2027
Galaxy Z Fold4 / Z Flip4 — Android updates end August 2026
Galaxy A54 5G — Android updates end March 2027
Galaxy S22 series — already done with Android updates, security ends Feb 2027
Google Pixel
Pixel 7 Pro — reaches end of life October 2027
Pixel 6 Pro — dead in October 2026
Pixel 6a — July 2027
Motorola
Motorola’s support is weaker than most. Most of their current lineup dies by end of 2027. The Razr+ (2023) gets security until June 2027. The Moto G (2024) goes until December 2027. Good luck getting major OS upgrades.
Apple
Apple doesn’t publish hard dates. They use a vintage/obsolete classification system. But older iPhones drop off eventually.
The bottom line: before you grab that “deal” on a year-old phone, check the expiration date. A bargain isn’t a bargain if your data’s exposed six months later.
