New AirTag 4-Pack Hits $89 for July 4th — That’s $22 Per Tracker

The second-gen Apple AirTag is finally on sale. A 4-pack is down to $89 for the July 4th weekend — that’s about $22 per tracker. If you only need one, a single AirTag runs $27. Not bad for Apple gear.

These things rarely go on sale. Apple doesn’t do “discount” as a strategy. So when a 4-pack drops $10, it’s worth paying attention to.

What’s new in gen two? Improved precision finding with a wider range than the original. The built-in speaker is 50% louder. There’s a new chime that makes finding your stuff faster. Stronger UWB and Bluetooth chips power the whole thing.

No GPS here. AirTags use Apple’s Find My network — millions of iPhones worldwide acting as passive location nodes. The network is absurdly good because, well, iPhones are everywhere.

ZDNet’s reviewer uses them on keys, wallets, and bags. Plans to add them to kids’ water bottles. There’s also the classic use: slip one in a wristband for crowded places, toss one in the car for parking lot finds, or drop one in luggage so you can track it before the airline admits it’s lost.

AirTags also share location with trusted contacts. And they alert nearby non-users if one’s traveling with them — a privacy feature that works on both iPhone and Android.

Do the math. $22 per tracker, works with billions of iPhones, and the battery lasts a year. That’s a pretty easy buy for anyone in the Apple ecosystem.
