Nearly 1 Million TRUMP Meme Coin Buyers Are Down $3.81 Billion

Almost a million people who bought the Official Trump (TRUMP) meme coin are sitting on $3.81 billion in collective losses. The token trades roughly 98% below its January 2025 peak. Nansen tracked the numbers.

Of about 1.48 million wallets that bought TRUMP, just under 500,000 locked in profits worth roughly $4 billion. Most of those gains went to early traders who sold into the first rally. The buyers who came later became exit liquidity — 988,905 wallets underwater, about two out of every three.

The token’s own website warned it wasn’t an investment. That didn’t stop the hype.

TRUMP launched January 17, 2025, three days before the second inauguration. Price jumped from under $1 to $73.43 in two days. Market cap briefly hit $15 billion. Then the clock ran out.

The pattern is tied to how the token works. A share of every trade goes to creator-linked wallets. Chainalysis traced over $324 million in fees to those addresses. Trump’s 2025 financial disclosure listed a $636 million windfall from the meme coin, routed through CIC Digital.

Retail buyers have little legal ground. The SEC said in February 2025 that meme coins aren’t securities. That leaves the whole thing outside its oversight.

Economist Peter Schiff called the tokens a way to buy access to the president. The White House disagrees. Spokeswoman Anna Kelly told the New York Times there are no conflicts of interest.

TRUMP hit an all-time low of $1.50 in early June. It trades near $1.79 now. Market cap sits around $424 million, ranking roughly 115th. Political branding drew more attention than a typical meme coin. It didn’t rewrite the math. Same boom, same bust.
