Donald Trump made over a billion dollars from crypto while in the White House. His response? Nothing wrong with that.
In a CNBC interview Thursday, the president said there was nothing illegal about the $1.4 billion in crypto-related income disclosed in his 2025 financial report. He claimed other people handle his investments and he doesn’t even know who they are. Critics aren’t buying it.
Trump’s memecoin hauled in roughly $636 million. World Liberty Financial sales added about $588 million. Another $197 million came from equity in a stablecoin venture. That’s a lot of money flowing into the president’s pockets while Congress debates crypto legislation.
The Digital Asset Market Clarity Act — the CLARITY Act — is under discussion right now. Advocacy groups have called the situation a conflict of interest. Mary Trump, the president’s niece, said on CNN that people are getting away with financial crimes because of how Trump’s used his pardon power.
Let’s be clear about the timeline here. Trump called Bitcoin a scam after his first term. Then, ahead of the 2024 election, he started cozying up to crypto execs — the Winklevoss twins, mining company bosses. Now he’s got his own memecoin and his family’s deep in World Liberty.
Meanwhile, the crypto industry is spending big on the 2026 midterms. Public Citizen reports crypto companies and figures have contributed $189 million so far this cycle — that’s already more than the $170 million they spent in 2024. Fairshake alone has dropped over $82 million.
All 435 House seats and 35 Senate seats are up this November. The money’s already flowing.
