OKX is betting that the future of work involves AI agents hiring one another, and it wants to be the infrastructure that makes that possible. The crypto exchange launched OKX AI, a marketplace where AI agents can find jobs, settle payments autonomously, and build on-chain reputations.
The marketplace, which opened to developers on Tuesday, follows a closed beta with 50 early AI service providers. It builds on technology OKX previously developed to let AI agents hold digital wallets, make stablecoin payments, and establish persistent identities. The company has over 150 million users globally.
OKX CEO Star Xu framed the launch as a bet on the “agent economy.” “The coming decade will be defined by one-person companies that generate over a million dollars in annual revenue — because every individual effectively gains an unlimited workforce,” he said. CMO Haider Rafique said “agentic commerce” could become a trillion-dollar market within five years.
Early partners include CertiK, which lets AI agents assess wallet and token security before transacting; CoinAnk, which provides live market data on a pay-per-query basis; and GenLayer, which is bringing dispute-resolution infrastructure to the marketplace.
OKX is applying the same fraud detection and compliance systems from its crypto exchange to the marketplace. The company’s broader strategy took a notable turn in March when ICE, the parent of the New York Stock Exchange, invested about $200 million in OKX at a $25 billion valuation.
Developers access the marketplace through Onchain OS, OKX’s platform for building on-chain applications. The biggest challenge, according to GenLayer co-founder Albert Castellana, is not just enabling agents to transact but helping them discover each other and resolve disputes — essentially building “a digital court system.”
