Another batch of Engadget reviews is in, and this week covers gaming handhelds, smart glasses, cameras, and smart speakers. Here’s what you might have missed.
The MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ is the standout gaming handheld of the roundup. Senior reviews writer Sam Rutherford called it “a beastly handheld that has pushed mobile PC gaming performance to new highs.” The catch? The price puts it out of reach for most people unless you have seriously deep pockets.
Sony’s A7R VI is the company’s most impressive camera in years. For the first time, Sony has delivered both speed and resolution in the same model. Contributing writer Steve Dent said it’s still primarily a portrait and landscape camera, but the extra megapixels might tempt action photographers who want to crop in on distant subjects.
Ray-Ban Meta Optics bring prescription lens compatibility to the smart glasses line. Senior reporter Karissa Bell said they’re the most comfortable, premium version you can get — if you can justify the cost.
Insta360’s Luna Ultra is a new vlogging camera with a dual-lens setup, optical zoom, and a detachable display. Contributing reviews writer James Trew called it a great debut in the category, noting that Insta360 beat DJI to market with the dual-lens design.
Google’s new smart speaker arrives in the Gemini for Home era. Deputy news editor Nathan Ingraham found it hardware-solid but said if you’re already unhappy with the Google Home app and Gemini, this speaker doesn’t change that. Hopefully Google keeps improving on the software side.
Then there’s the XGIMI MemoMind One smart glasses, which come with an AI assistant that senior writer Daniel Cooper found “awfully creepy.” The glasses themselves are useful as a second screen, but the Wishes app needs more time in the oven before it’s ready for prime time.
