Meta’s entry-level VR headset, the Quest 3S with 128GB of storage, is on sale at Amazon for $296.79 — about $53 off the recent $349.99 price. It’s not a jaw-dropping deal, but it’s the best price you’ll find for a new unit right now.
The Quest 3S launched in 2024 at $299.99 before getting a price hike earlier this year. It’s essentially a blend of the higher-end Quest 3 and the older Quest 2 — a Goldilocks compromise.
You get the same Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 processor as the Quest 3, the same cameras with color passthrough video, and the same controllers. What you don’t get is the Quest 3’s pancake lenses and higher resolution per eye. The 3S uses fresnel lenses like the Quest 2, and its screen resolution is 1832 x 1920 pixels per eye — still perfectly serviceable.
It’s a standalone wireless VR headset that plays games from the Quest store, including titles like Batman: Arkham Shadow and Supernatural. You can also wirelessly stream Steam games from your PC if you don’t mind some added latency.
If you’re upgrading from a Quest 2, the 3S is a meaningful step up — faster, more comfortable, and better overall. The only downside is that we’re unlikely to see the kind of deep discounts we used to get, like the $249 Black Friday price from last year.
The deal is available now at Amazon. Best Buy also has the 128GB model, though at the full $349.99 price.
