Microsoft has released the KB5095093 preview cumulative update for Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2, introducing a new Point-in-Time Restore feature along with numerous bug fixes.
The update is part of Microsoft’s optional non-security preview schedule, released at the end of each month to test fixes and features coming in the following month’s Patch Tuesday. Unlike regular Patch Tuesday updates, these don’t include security fixes and are optional.
The standout feature is Point-in-Time Restore, which lets users roll back their OS, applications, and files to a previous state within minutes. Microsoft says restore points are captured using Volume Shadow Copy Service and stored locally on the device.
“Point-in-time restore enables users to restore a Windows PC to the exact state in which it was at an earlier point in time,” Microsoft explained. Restore points are created every 24 hours for consumers and deleted after 72 hours. Enterprise users can configure snapshots at intervals of 4, 6, 12, 16, or 24 hours.
The update also fixes a bug where internal file names were displayed instead of normal filenames when deleting files from the Recycle Bin — an issue introduced by the June 2026 security update (KB5094126).
Other changes include improved Secure Boot certificate targeting, better Netlogon secure channel connections, an emoji panel update switching from Tenor to GIPHY for GIFs, improved network share connectivity, and fixed notification badge display on the taskbar.
Windows 11 users can install the update via Settings > Windows Update, or manually from the Microsoft Update Catalog.
